Fornace Brioni represents the pinnacle of Italian terracotta craftsmanship, where centuries-old tradition meets visionary contemporary design. Based in the historic grounds of Gonzaga, their furnace transforms humble clay into sophisticated architectural surfaces that feel both ancient and avant-garde. Their collections range from delicate geometries to the bold, sculptural forms, and redefine terracotta as a versatile medium for the modern luxury interior.
Each tile is a testament to “slow design,” handcrafted using local clays and wood-fired techniques that produce a unique, variegated patina impossible to replicate through industrial means. Whether it is the rhythmic patterns of the Ducato collection or the structural depth of Void – Fornace Brioni offers more than just flooring or wall coverings. It provides a sensory experience that celebrates the raw, tactile beauty of the earth.
Founded in 1920 and now led by fourth-generation brothers Alessio and Alberto Brioni, Fornace Brioni continues a legacy rooted in the floodplains of the Po River. The studio sources fine clays naturally deposited over centuries, shaping each piece by hand using wooden molds and time-honored firing methods.
While deeply connected to history, the atelier continuously invests in research and development. Exploring new interpretations of cotto, experimental finishes, and evolving color palettes that push terracotta beyond tradition.
An ancient material with a contemporary voice.
Traditional cotto is formed by hand and offered in a range of nuanced shades from warm Paglierino to layered Grigio tones and Rosato. The signature gray cotto is achieved through a closely guarded firing technique refined across generations.
Available in rustic or smooth finishes, these surfaces balance irregularity and refinement, making them suitable for both heritage restorations and modern architectural environments.
Inspired by 16th–18th century floors found in churches and historic residences of the Po Valley, variegated cotto blends multiple clays to create a marbled, constantly evolving surface. During firing, the colors intensify, resulting in a vivid, stone-like effect with rich chromatic movement.
Each tile carries subtle variations, ensuring no two installations are ever identical.
10 incredible colors blended into a one of a kind tile. Available in multiple formats.
Fornace Brioni’s ceramic collections preserve the artisanal spirit of handmade surfaces while introducing refined glazing techniques.
Glazes may be applied to traditional cotto for a rugged, organic texture, or to white clay for a smoother, more contemporary effect. Offered in matte and gloss finishes, the evolving palette reflects ongoing chromatic research and material experimentation.
Defined by rhythmic brushstrokes that are at once identical and unique, Fluviale creates an organic mosaic inspired by river currents and aquatic plant life. Tone-on-tone layering and precise hand application result in a surface that feels both structured and fluid.
Sub-collections include Fluviale Plain, Golena, and Alveo.
Originally conceived for interiors, Tivoli now extends into architectural environments exposed to water and heavy use.
Crafted from colored technical clay, Tivoli Tech offers enhanced resistance to impact, wear, and atmospheric agents, making it ideal for pools, hospitality spaces, and high-traffic public settings.
